because I thought it was always singular (a collective noun or something)

In this sentence:
Though its early history is not fully known, origami, the art of folding objects out of paper without cutting, pasting, or decorating, seems to have developed from the older art of folding cloth

"origami seems to have developed…", means that origami is singular (since it goes with the sing verb "seems"), but what’s with the "have"? (which is plural)

When you consider the 30-unit Stella Conica a dodecahedron from 12 5-petal flowers it is a small step to the truncated icosahedron AKA Buckyball made out of 12 5-petal flowers and 20 6-petal flowers all from Miyuki Kawamura’s Stella Conica modules. Basically the same but now you create the 6-unit flowers in between the 5-petal flowers. Great when it’s raining all day and you are watching a movie… I can make those modules blindfolded while taking a shower by now!! ; )
